Meet Our Priest

Fr. Yurii Sas, 43, is a graduate of the Ivano-Frankivsk Theological Seminary. After ministry as Protodeacon to Metropolitan Volodymyr, he was ordained to the priesthood on May 24, 2009 and served at a large parish in Radcha where his late father-in-law was pastor. Fr. Yurii came to the United States in 2016 and shortly thereafter became pastor of the historic St. John the Baptist and St. Demetrius parishes in western North Dakota.

Bishop Benedict appointed Fr. Yurii as Administrator of our parish in the summer of 2018. He was awarded the epigonation (nabedrennyk) by the Bishop in November of 2024. Fr. Yurii is also the founding priest of Holy Theophany Mission in southern Orange County and has revived the St. Michael’s Ukrainian Catholic Community in the Coachella Valley (Palm Springs).

Fr. Yurii is a full-time chaplain at Scripps Green Hospital in San Diego and has a hospice ministry across Southern California. Coming from a long lineage of priests, two of his cousins serve as priests in our Eparchy– one in Portland, OR and the other in Grand Rapids, MI.

Fr. Yurii is married with two daughters studying at university.
