Glory to God, work continues at a fast pace on the building site. Each day, multiple crews start around 7:00 a.m.
Recently, most of the two buildings have been covered in paper and wire (lath) in preporation for stucco. We’re waiting for a few windows in the church hall to be swapped out and for the front doors to be made. Once those all get installed, stucco will begin in earnest.
The font doors are slightly taller than 8 feet and a little over 6 feet wide. A parishioner is a bronze sculptor and she is current working on moulds for the doors. The moulds are icons of the Visitation of Mary and Elizabeth wherein John the Baptizer lept with joy in Elizabeth’s womb at the presence of Jesus in Mary’s womb. It’s the “orgin story” of our patron St. John the Baptizer. These moulds will be cast in bronze at a foundry in the Bay Area and will be bolted into the front doors.
Roof shingles are also starting to go in. The inside of the church (pictured below) is filled with scaffolding as HVAC ducting, electrical wires, and fire supression systems are installed.
Soon we will start installing insulation and drywall!
Many things are also in motion for the church itself. The five cupolas and crosses are on a cargo ship now in the Indian Ocean on its way from Europe to Long Beach with a stop in Malaysia in between. The altar is nearly finished and will be shipped to San Diego via plane. A “kliros” which is an area for church singers is currently being designed and will be a raised platform to the right of the iconostasis. And lastly, the chanderlier is being made and will be ready at the end of September.
Слава Богу за все!
